Tintype Photobooth

1839 Centre for Historic Photography Processes invites all to get their portraits photographed with a famous 19th-century photography process, Wet Plate collodion Process – tintype.

The Wet Plate collodion Process involves pouring collodion on a high gloss black enamel aluminium plate and sensitized with silver nitrate. Then the plate is exposed and developed immediately. Each plate is handmade in the darkroom; from start to finish plate will take around 45 minutes. The Wet Plate Collodion process is a slow process. The exposure time will be about 15-30 seconds, and during the exposure, people sitting for a portrait would have to stay ideally still.

Guidelines for shoot

Wet Plate Collodion Process registers a limited part of the visual spectrum, i.e. collodion, when sensitized, will be primarily sensitive to blue and ultraviolet. Thus, one must refrain from wearing clothing with red, yellow, orange, purple colours. Also, I would add that the make-up which includes above mention colours should be avoided.
